Byron Bay is about a 2 hours drive South of Gold Coast. Just the drive, I thought, was worth it, watching the sugar cane fields and passing through small villages. When we got to Byron Bay I knew we had found a paradise
Atop the large hill, where we climbed stairs for 1.5km, we discovered a bright white castle like, light house. Up there, the view of the Pacific Ocean was breath taking. We watched the surf crash against the high cliffs, mesmerized by its strength and beauty. On top of that hill is also a parking lot and a gift shop, therefore if you don't think you're up to the hike, you can drive. I would definitely recommend the hike though as one have an incredible view of the beach below. On our hike to the top, we stopped quite a few times, one was to of course snap pictures and second was to watch the wild goats eating calmly on the steep side of the hill.
It is best to park the car, often you will find that it is difficult to find a parking close to the beach, as it is quite a busy spot. Yet it is worth it to walk, as the town is nice to visit with it's numerous shops. And of course the beach is one of the best in Australia, and is quite known to the locals as the place to get together
Sights:
You'll find many surfers riding the high waves, and the beach packed with all kinds of people of many different ages.
Other recommendations:
The shops are expensive in this town, probably due to the many tourists passing through. You'll find great bikini and bathing suits models though.
